In order for students to reach VELS level 2 in math-number teacher must teach students to “describe and calculate simple multiplication as repeated addition, such as 3 × 5 = 5 + 5 + 5; and division as sharing, such as 8 shared between 4” and to “use commutative and associative properties of addition and multiplication in mental computation” (VELS). There are several different resources that can be used to teach the students this, some helpful resources can be found below.

Simple multiplication as repeated addition:
VELS level 2 in math number refers to teaching the children about simple multipication as repeated addition. This is something that explains the meaning behind multipication and therefore allows the children to see the purpose of acturally having multipication because they can see how it makes things easier. There are many different things that the teacher can do to therefore teach this to the students. There are some helpful resources below.

The link below is about simple multipication as repeated addition. This is a very good worksheet because it goes through the steps of working out the repeated addition and then has some questions for the students to find. This could be a good reosurce for teachers to use to reinforce and practise how to work out simple multiplication as repeated addition.

The link below is simple to the above link but there are more examples and questions and it goes through everything a lot more simplier for the children, So if there are a few students who are struggling working on this sheet could really help them grasp a good understanding of this type of math.
